After a few months off the air, Roots and Resurgence is back, and I’m thrilled to share the journey with you all. This summer, my family and I took a 4,000-mile road trip, turning it into a rock pilgrimage. We started at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, caught a live show in St. Louis, visited Graceland, and stood in awe at Sun Studios in Memphis. It was an inspiring adventure through rock’s iconic landmarks.
Last night’s return show was packed with a mix of the new and the classic. We kicked off with Bruce Springsteen’s “Devils and Dust” before diving into some exciting new music. One highlight was Larkin Poe’s latest single, “Bluephoria.” For those who haven’t heard them, Larkin Poe is a roots rock band led by sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell. Their sound, steeped in southern harmonies and electric guitar riffs, echoes the spirit of the Allman Brothers while pushing rock forward with a fresh, energetic style.
Another standout was The Warning’s “Six Feet Deep” from their album Keep Me Fed. This Mexican rock band, also made up of three sisters—Daniela, Paulina, and Alejandra Villarreal—has evolved from viral sensations to rock powerhouses. Their latest album, recorded in Monterrey, Mexico, dives into themes of excess and features their signature hard rock sound. Tracks like “S!CK” and “Qué Más Quieres” show off their growth and depth, proving that the future of rock is in passionate hands.
We also paid homage to the classics with Jerry Lee Lewis’s “Good Golly Miss Molly” from his newly remastered album Killer In Stereo: Good Rockin’ Tonight (Remastered 2023). It’s amazing how this track still crackles with the raw energy that made rock a cultural phenomenon, connecting the genre’s rebellious roots to its present-day resurgence.
Roots and Resurgence has always been more than just a show—it’s a journey through the music that defines and continues to shape our culture. Rock is not dead; it’s alive and evolving. Join me every Monday at 8 PM on WMFO in Medford, MA, or stream online as we keep the spirit of rock and roll alive and thriving.
